Children and Youth Opportunities

Opportunities abound for students in District 622. Community Education provides after-school and summer enrichment classes, student services and leadership programs.
After-School Programs
Adventure Connection
After School Enrichment - Grades K-8
From crafts to karate, a variety of fun enrichment activities are offered to elementary children after school at each elementary and middle school, and during the evening hours.

Summer:
For six weeks each summer, Community Education offers children in grades K-12 a chance to participate in fun, educational classes and activities, week-long mini-camps, remedial and advanced academic classes, swim lessons, intensive band instruction, volunteering, career explorations and a community theater.

Youth Service for Grades K-12
Classroom Based Service Learning: Students participate in meaningful service activities that positively impact the community and teach academic and life skills.
Community Service Class: North High School offers an elective Service Learning course in which students plan and participate in service activities that make positive changes in the community and schools.
Youth Volunteer Force: Compassionate young people volunteer as a team to make a difference in the lives of others. Past projects include holiday parties for homeless children, nursing home visits and fund raising for special causes.
Student Leadership for Grades 6-12
Youth Advisory Councils: Young people come together to determine how to make their school and community a better place for all through Community Education.
Cross-Age Education: Trained high school students teach prevention and education programs to younger kids through these cross-age teaching programs.
- Responsible Actions and Substance Prevention (RASP) is a chemical health program for fourth grade students about making healthy choices.
- Dads Make a Difference is a sexual responsibility program that helps middle school students understand the roles and of males in a relationship.
- Conflict Resolution and Bullying curriculum developed by Camp Fire Boys and Girls and 4H is taught in elementary classrooms.
- Junior Achievement teaches elementary children about the world of business and economics.
